Arizona beggarticks "Golden Rain"
This plant is a real find for those looking for maximum effect with minimum hassle. Completely unpretentious, frost- and drought-resistant, it blooms abundantly and continuously from early summer until late autumn.
Bidens is native to Mexico and Guatemala, but in our climate, it is grown as a luxurious annual. In one season, a tiny seed grows into a powerful, highly branched bush 50-90 cm high.
* Shape: Stems begin to branch from the very ground, forming a dense crown. If the plant is pinched periodically, it turns into a perfect flowering ball.
* Foliage: Dark green, dissected, resembling elegant lace or dill.
* Flowers: Numerous bright yellow baskets 2-4 cm in diameter. There are so many of them that the greenery is almost invisible.
* Aroma: The honey scent attracts bees and butterflies to the garden, which looks especially touching at the end of summer.
Use in Design:
Thanks to its spreading and partially trailing form, Bidens is the king of hanging baskets and balcony boxes (especially popular in Austria and Germany).
It looks magnificent:
1. In containers and planters (both solo and paired with petunia or surfinia).
2. In borders and flower beds, creating a bright sunny spot.
3. In vases: its shoots effectively intertwine around the edges of the vessel.
GROWING TIPS: Simple and Effective.
Sowing:
* Outdoors: In early spring (April), as soon as the soil warms up. Sow in "nests" of 3-4 seeds per hole (distance between holes 35-40 cm). This ensures bush density and safeguards germination. Seedlings appear in 9-14 days.
* Seedlings: In March. Transplant to the ground in late May. With the seedling method, flowering begins as early as mid-June.
Conditions: Bidens loves light but is cold-resistant. It prefers light, sandy, moderately fertilized soils without stagnant water.
Care:
1. Moderate watering (the plant is drought-resistant).
2. Fertilizing with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers every 10-14 days guarantees an avalanche of flowers.
3. Pruning: The plant tolerates pruning perfectly! If the shoots become too long or flowering weakens, boldly trim the bush. Literally two weeks later, it will be covered with new buds.
1 g contains 450-490 seeds (only 0.5 g is needed for 100 plants).
